We are more than music lessons

Mechanics of Music Studios is a creative and community-driven music school based in New Westminster, BC. We offer private lessons, group classes, workshops, and community events for students of all ages, with a special focus on adult learners and those returning to music later in life.​

Founded by Kaitlin Deavy—a former mechanical engineer turned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and educator—the studio was built with the vision of making music education more accessible, practical, and connected to real-life creativity. Kaitlin’s journey from engineering to music shapes the school’s philosophy: break things down, understand how they work, and build something meaningful. Her passion for community, collaboration, and empowering others has helped shape Mechanics of Music into more than just a place to take lessons—it's a place to belong.​

Today, our team of talented instructors brings a wide range of musical experience and teaching styles to the studio. From guitar, piano, and voice to ukulele, drums, violin, and songwriting, our teachers work together to create a fun and inclusive environment where students can explore their musical interests at their own pace. Whether performing at local markets, jamming at a community event, or writing original songs, students at Mechanics of Music are part of a musical family that celebrates creativity, confidence, and connection.
