The Rock Star Crew is Mechanics of Music’s student performance group, made up of bold beginners, passionate hobbyists, and emerging young musicians who are ready to take their practice beyond the lesson room—and onto the stage.
This is where the magic of music meets the magic of community. Whether you’ve been learning for a few months or a few years, the Rock Star Crew gives you a chance to perform, collaborate, grow, and shine alongside others in a supportive, no-pressure environment.
We don’t care if you’re still learning your first few chords or if you’ve already got a playlist of songs under your fingers. If you’ve got the guts to try, the kindness to cheer on your bandmates, and the heart to show up with joy, we want you in the crew.
What We Do
Perform all over New Westminster and the Lower Mainland

Street festivals, family events, outdoor stages, cafés, breweries—you name it. We’ve rocked Downtown New West, Uptown New West, Street Sessions, the Hyack Parade, the Anvil Centre, Canada Day, and more!
Learn how to rehearse like a band

Students work together in small group settings with professional instructors. We focus on timing, confidence, listening, and having each other’s backs.
Celebrate beginners

You don’t need years of experience. We’ll meet you where you’re at and help you level up in a fun, no-pressure environment.
Who Can Join
-
Ages 7 to 107
-
Instruments welcome: guitar, ukulele, piano, voice, drums, bass, violin, saxophone, flute, kazoo… you name it
-
You should be enrolled in lessons or group classes at Mechanics of Music, or have instructor recommendation
-
Enthusiasm, courage, and good vibes required
Practice & Performance

Weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals (dates vary) as part of the Rock Band Class

Live shows year-round across the Lower Mainland

Students rotate in and out based on availability and confidence

Some sessions include community busking, others involve staged performances
