MECHANICS OF MUSIC STREET SESSIONS

A free outdoor celebration of music & community

Join us in the heart of New Westminster for Street Sessions, a free hands-on, all-ages event that brings music out of the studio and onto the street. Whether you’ve never picked up an instrument or you’ve been jamming for years, this is your chance to play, sing, and connect.

Start the day with our Sound Playground, a space where you can try guitars, ukuleles, drums, and more. Our teachers will be there to help you explore, answer questions, and show you how easy it is to make music.

Then, stick around for our community sing-along—a big, joyful session featuring songs everyone knows and loves. No stage, no pressure, just neighbours making noise together. â€‹Rain or shine, it’s going to be a good time.

All ages, all instruments, all welcome.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Street Sessions?
Street Sessions is a free outdoor music event hosted by Mechanics of Music. It’s a mix of hands-on music exploration and a big community sing-along. Everyone’s invited to join in, listen, or simply enjoy the vibe.

Do I need to bring an instrument?
We’ll have several instruments available at our Sound Playground—guitars, ukuleles, drums, keyboards, and more—but quantities are limited. Bring your own instrument if you have one, to guarantee you’ll have something to play.

Is it free to attend?
Yes, the event is completely free thanks to support from the Downtown New West BIA and Urban Activation Grant.

Who can come?
Everyone’s welcome—kids, adults, families, and anyone curious about music. You don’t need any musical experience to have fun.

Where and when is it happening?

  • Friday, November 15, outside the Fraser River Discovery Centre

  • Friday, November 29 at Hyack Square

  • Both from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

What happens if it rains?
We’ll still be there! The event runs rain or shine, so bring your raincoat and your rhythm.

Can I sing even if I’m not a great singer?

Absolutely. The sing-along is about connection and fun, not perfection.
