MECHANICS OF MUSIC STREET SESSIONS

A free outdoor celebration of music & community

Thank you for making the Street Sessions a huge success! We brought the music out of the studio and into the heart of New Westminster—and you showed up in a big way.

From the Sound Playground, where folks of all ages picked up guitars, ukuleles, drums, and more, to the community sing-along where voices filled the street, your energy made the day unforgettable. Whether you were trying an instrument for the first time or jamming like a pro, your presence turned this into more than an event—it became a celebration of connection, creativity, and community.

Thank you for playing, singing, and showing how powerful music can be when we share it together. Rain or shine, you made it a good time. Visit the Photo Galleries below!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Street Sessions?
Street Sessions is a free outdoor music event hosted by Mechanics of Music. It’s a mix of hands-on music exploration and a big community sing-along. Everyone’s invited to join in, listen, or simply enjoy the vibe.

Do I need to bring an instrument?
We’ll have several instruments available at our Sound Playground—guitars, ukuleles, drums, keyboards, and more—but quantities are limited. Bring your own instrument if you have one, to guarantee you’ll have something to play.

Is it free to attend?
Yes, the event is completely free thanks to support from the Downtown New West BIA and Urban Activation Grant.

Who can come?
Everyone’s welcome—kids, adults, families, and anyone curious about music. You don’t need any musical experience to have fun.

Where and when is it happening?

  • Friday, November 15, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

  • Friday, November 29, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

  • Both outside the Fraser River Discovery Centre

What happens if it rains?
We’ll still be there! The event runs rain or shine, so bring your raincoat and your rhythm.

Can I sing even if I’m not a great singer?

Absolutely. The sing-along is about connection and fun, not perfection.
